– Fri, Nov 03, 2017 at 05:02:02 PM
We did it, Hunters! Relic Hunters Legend is 100% funded!
We cannot thank you enough! Actually, I take that back - we will thank you by making the best game we ever made in our lives. This is going to be an amazing journey!
Stretch Goals
The Kickstarter campaign is not over, though! We still have 48 hours to hit these sweet stretch goals:
Stretch goals, let's go!
Let's try and bring more Hunters to our community! Here's what you get by backing now:
Raff's Emerald skin (reward for the Community Achievements);
When the game goes Free-to-Play in 2019, every Backer gets +$5 extra in-game currency (reward for the Community Achievements);
Hurry up, there's less than 48h left to grab this! Slacker backers won't get bonuses!
Backers from Alpha Hunter tier and upwards play this Sunday!
Join us and play a Pre-Alpha demo on Steam! If you back on the Alpha Hunter tier or above, you will receive your Steam key this Sunday (November 5th) at Noon (PDT). Mark and the other devs will also play with you, and we'll livestream this party from our Twitch channel starting at 1 PM PDT: www.twitch.tv/playrelichunters !
Open Development Starts Next Week
Here at Rogue Snail we already began talking about what's next for the Alpha version! We will share our plans with you next week on a Trello board where backers will be able to check on our progress and comment/vote on things they want the most.
We'll also be opening our Backer channel on Discord and are looking forward to making this game with you :) Our current plan to develop the game with you is:
Open Trello board with next features and development roadmap;
Daily discussions on Discord/Forums;
Pre-Alpha builds on Steam as frequently as possible for our Alpha Hunters;
This is going to be exciting! I'M EXCITED! ARE YOU EXCITED? <3
Thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Cheers,
~Mark

Happy Halloween Hunters! (4 Days Left in Campaign!)
– Tue, Oct 31, 2017 at 09:39:18 PM
Happy Halloween Hunters!
To celebrate Halloween, we're giving all backers an exclusive Vampire Jimmy Skin! In addition, all backers who have pledged to an Alpha Hunter tier or higher will receive a multiplayer game demo at the end of the campaign! We are limiting it to Alpha Hunter tiers and above, as our servers can only handle so many Hunters at this time. We will release the game demo keys individually as soon as the campaign is over.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 1 PM PT, we will be doing a special live stream on Twitch, where we will be showcasing more of our game demo, along with Jimmy's new skin! Come join us as we participate in some exciting multiplayer action with the creator of the game, Mark Venturelli!
Community Achievement Update
We’ve reached Level 4, which means that every backer will get $5 in-game currency when the game launches!
The Level 4 Reward = Kickstarter Exclusive Emerald Raff Skin!
There are only a couple days left to finish those Achievement, Hunters. Let’s see if we can unlock Red, the Kami Rider!
Crazy week ahead of us, as we are starting to wrap up our campaign. We are currently 88% funded, with 4 days left to go. We thank all of you again for your continued support, and we hope the next time we do an update, it will be with good news!
Cheers,
~Mark
Karma System + Community Achievement Update (9 Days Left in Campaign!)
– Thu, Oct 26, 2017 at 11:30:33 PM
Hello Hunters!
We are coming down to the final stretch of our campaign, and we are happy to report that we are 73% funded! We're inching closer each day to reaching our goal, and it's been wonderful meeting new Hunters alike. We have 9 days left until the end of the campaign, so help us spread the word!
Be sure to Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or join our Discord channel for all the latest Relic Hunters information and news!
Karma System
In today’s design post we’re talking about our Social Currency feature: Karma.
There are many challenges that we have to face when designing an online game, but two in particular come up time and time again, in games big and small: getting players together, and fostering a positive, non-toxic community.
Be nice to one another!
With that in mind, we decided to do as we always do - try to solve it with game design!
Karma is an in-game currency that is awarded every time you complete a multiplayer activity. Each account will have a weekly cap on how much Karma they can acquire, and it is possible to increase your Karma earnings through the following methods:
Distress Beacons
Tough mission? No one to play with? Or maybe you need one more random stranger to fill up your squad? You can use the Distress Beacon to recruit other Relic Hunters from across time and space to help you out.
Prepare for trouble!
When you go into any activity, you can activate the Distress Beacon and you will be in the queue for the Help Others feature (see below).
Help Others
Feeling generous? Or maybe you just want to chill and play Relic Hunters, and don’t really care which activity you will be placed in. Or maybe, secretly, you just want to farm Karma (hey, no one’s judging!).
There will be a big “Help Others” button on the main activities menu where you will be placed into the game of someone who activated a Distress Beacon - as long as you can access that activity yourself! When you complete the activity, you will be rewarded with a fat sum of Karma, proportional to how tough it was!
Level Scaling
When you make an indie multiplayer game, you have to be smart about how to not separate your players. We will try to matchmake people with similar levels together, but when there’s no one available, we might put a veteran player to help out a novice one.
The specifics of how level scaling works in Legend are a subject for another Update, but suffice it to say, we do it in a way where a veteran player will feel powerful, but not invincible: the activity won’t be trivialized by a “god character” that explodes all the bosses in one hit.
Commending Players
At the end of every activity, players can Commend one of their teammates for being super awesome - either for their assistance in a tough mission, their niceness, their funny jokes or their badass gaming skills. You choose!
Being commended awards you with extra Karma! Players will also have access to a “Super Commendation” that is available once a day - save that to make a stranger’s day specially delightful!
Super Commendations do not give more Karma than the normal ones, but they leave warm fuzzies inside - guaranteed! There’s no better feeling than giving.
Cashing In Your Karma
You can spend your accumulated Karma during the weekends (Friday - Sunday) where the End of Time will be open and the Stranger will trade sweet loot for Karma.
The Stranger will sell many desirable things, such as Gifts, Legendary items, Cosmetics and etc. The selection is limited, and it rotates every weekend - so choose wisely!
That’s it for today! Hope you liked this overview of the Karma system!
Cheers,
~Mark
Community Achievement Update
Yesterday, we had Betu draw the most voted suggestion for the Level 2 Reward - Biu arm wrestling a Ducan Elite while all the Relic Hunters are cheering in the background!
We're almost halfway toward reaching Level 3, which means, an additional $5 of in-game currency for every backer! Let's see if we can reach Level 5 and unlock the extra character, Red, the Kami Rider!
Participating in the Community Achievements will help to unlock rewards for the entire community. To count for completion, all Achievement contributions must follow these simple rules:
Publicly posted on Twitter and/or Facebook with the #RelicHunters hashtag
Contain original content (no duplicates or stealing!)
Have no offensive, explicit or NSFW content

Star Signs + Community Achievement Update + Betu Draws!
– Wed, Oct 25, 2017 at 12:02:30 AM
Hey Hunters!
Today we will talk about one of the quirkiest features of Relic Hunters Legend: Star Signs!
When you first play the game, you will need to assign a gender (or not) to Seven, as well as choose a Star Sign for you/him/her. Seven is strange like that, acting both as your avatar in the world of Relic Hunters and also as a mysterious character with his/her own secrets.
Star Signs govern the relationships between the Hunters. The Affinity bonuses (or penalties) between your chosen Sign and each particular Hunter’s Sign will affect the Friendship Level requirements, and also future interactions that are yet to be revealed.
There are 5 Signs in total:
Comet Sign
Keywords: Red, Air, Sanguine
Description: very sociable, juvenile, talk a lot and live in search of pleasure. Can be optimistic and warmhearted. Comet Signs make friends easily, have great imagination, creativity and artistic talent. They can be can be fickle and distracted, and might find tasks hard to finish and be chronically late or forgetful.
Aligned with Star, misaligned with Planet.
Star Sign
Keywords: Yellow, Fire, Choleric
Description: tend to be goal and task-oriented people, and focused on realizing these goals and tasks efficiently. Their motto is usually "do it now". Star Signs might be ambitious, stubborn, and enjoy being in control. They tend to take on leadership position and are naturally talented at planning and developing practical solutions to problems. They enjoy receiving respect and acknowledgement for their good work.
Aligned with Comet, misaligned with Satellite.
Planet Sign
Keywords: Blue, Earth, Melancholic
Description: serious, introverted, cautious and slow to trust. Planet Signs tend to become preoccupied with the tragedy and cruelty of the world and are susceptible to depression and unstable moods. They are focused and conscious of their actions, and mostly prefer to do things alone - both to be up to their own standards, and because they are not inherently sociable.
Aligned with Satellite, misaligned with Comet.
Satellite Sign
Keywords: Purple, Water, Supine
Description: private, reasonable, calm, patient and tolerant. Satellite Signs tend to live a rich internal life and to seek a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Have good self-esteem and tend to be disciplined and consistent on their actions. Keep friends for the whole life. They may sound clumsy or slow, and their speech tends to be slow or appear hesitant.
Aligned with Planet, misaligned with Star.
Void Sign
Keywords: Black, Ether, Phlegmatic
Description: balanced, diplomatic, mysterious, nomadic. Rarest of the Signs, the Void Signs are introverts that nonetheless seek comfort and acceptance in others. They tend to strive for the in-between, maintaining balance in their social interactions. Although opening up is difficult for them, they wish to be understood - even expect to. They are rarely completely satisfied, and seek change constantly, although in a much slower pace than Comet Signs.
Neutral to all other Signs.
That’s all for today! Hope you liked this brief overview of the Star Signs feature! Can you guess the Star Sign of each of the main Relic Hunters?
Cheers,
~Mark

The Friendship System + Community Achievement Update!
– Sun, Oct 22, 2017 at 04:48:20 PM
Hello Hunters!
We are now at the midway point of our campaign! Thanks to all your efforts, we've reached 66% of our target goal! Our community has been growing at a rapid pace, and we've been humbled and overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from all of you!
The Friendship System
Today we are talking about one of my favorite features of Relic Hunters Legend: the Friendship system! It is a cool mix between a traditional “Faction” system in MMOGs, and the “Companion” storylines in western RPGs such as Mass Effect.
Panzer loves fudgeballs!
Unlocking a Hunter
Friendship Level 0 means that you cannot play as that Hunter. To unlock a Hunter, you must upgrade his/her Friendship Level to at least 1 (see below).
Friendship Points and Friendship Level
Friendship level is represented by 5 hearts, and start at 0 (no hearts filled). To increase it, you must obtain enough Friendship points for that Hunter to increase his/her level. Sources of Friendship Points are:
Level 1 Friendship Quest
Before unlocking a Hunter (Friendship Level 0), there is a long quest-line available for each Hunter that provides enough Friendship Points for the first level. This is the simpler and most straightforward way to level up Friendship.
Weekly Friendship Quests
After Friendship Level 1, each Hunter hands out a weekly-resetting set of Friendship Quests that award plenty of Friendship Points if completed.
Gifts
You can earn special items known as "Gifts" from login rewards, events, or just random drops when killing Champions or Bosses. Each Gift will "please" only certain Hunters, as stated in their descriptions. You can only hand Gifts to Hunters that would be pleased by them, and in return win a good chunk of Friendship points. For example, Movie Tickets will only please Ace, Raff or Jimmy.
Friendship Missions
Before you increase the Friendship Level, after acquiring enough Friendship Points, you must complete a special Mission. Story and content of that Mission is unique to each Hunter and each Friendship Level, and will usually involve something from their personal stories.
Seven's Friendship Level
Seven is unique in that you cannot increase his/hers Friendship level directly as you would with other Hunters. Every time you earn Friendship Points with other Hunters, a small percentage is converted into Friendship Points for Seven. It is only possible to reach maximum Friendship Level with Seven (and unlock his/her full story) after doing so with multiple Hunters.
Sign Affinity
Affinity between the player's Sign and the Hunter's determines how many Friendship Points are required for each level. Curious about how Star Signs work? That’s the next Update, keep on the lookout for it!
Community Achievement Update
We have reached Level 3 in our Community Achievements, which means, Betu will be drawing something special decided by the entire community! You can head over to our Facebook Page to vote on the top suggestions from our fellow Hunters, and later this week, Betu will be on Facebook Live to draw the one with with most votes.
For the "Profile pics" and "Profile name" Achievements, only Kickstarter and Twitter accounts apply. If you choose to do it on Twitter, please tweet about it with the #RelicHunters hashtag so that we can find it!
Shout-Out to Selling Sunlight!
A beautiful narrative RPG detailing the journey of you, a wandering merchant at war with the Sun. Befriend diverse individuals, explore an expansive world, and delve into the wonder that is your benevolent Sun.
You can go to their Kickstarter page to help support this wonderful project.
That’s it for today! Hope you liked this overview of Friendship :)
